Softball Game Preview: Plainfield Panthers vs. Stonington Bears

The Plainfield Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Stonington Bears at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Plainfield barely beat Griswold the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over the Wolverines on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Stonington entered their tilt with Griswold on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Wolverines 10-2.

Ainslie Zagol made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Raegan Palmer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Shelby Mayo also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Plainfield's record now sits at 9-7. As for Stonington, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Plainfield might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Stonington when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
