Westlake is 9-1 against Rocky River since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Demons are taking a road trip to face off against the Pirates at 4:45 p.m. Westlake has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Buckeye hit Westlake with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Demons came up short against the Bucks, falling 13-4. The loss continues a trend for the Demons in their meetings with the Bucks: they've now lost four in a row.
Lindsey Horvath made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Trudy Rocco, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Rocky River made sure to put some runs up on the board against Valley Forge on Tuesday. The Pirates never let the Patriots get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.
Reagan Kane made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 12 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leigh Konet, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Elleana Biscardi also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Rocky River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Rocky River is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Westlake, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-6.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westlake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Rocky River struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westlake beat Rocky River 8-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Demons repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
