Softball Recap: West Geauga Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but West Geauga ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Jefferson Area Falcons 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolverines have posted since May 13, 2024.

Lely Percassi spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dayana Malone and Shaylynn Rogaski did most of the damage at the plate: Malone went 3-for-5 with one home run and one double, while Rogaski went 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Rogaski a new career-high. Faelynn Beckrest also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

West Geauga's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Jefferson Area, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-6.

Coming up, West Geauga will welcome South at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Jefferson Area, they will head out on the road to square off against Madison at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Streaks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
