Basketball Recap: Cortez Comes Up Short

Cortez lost against Yuma back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Cortez Colts took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yuma Criminals. The Colts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Cortez lost, don't look at Kailey Vasquez. Despite the final result, she posted 23 points. Those 23 points gave Vasquez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gisselle Ojeda Vega, who had 12 points.

Cortez's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Yuma, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Cortez does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Yuma, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Kofa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Yuma is facing Kofa at the right time seeing as Kofa is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
