Football Recap: Odem Piles Up the Points Against Monte Alto

There's no place like home for Odem, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-6 win over the Monte Alto Blue Devil. The Owls haven't had any issues with the Blue Devil recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

John Hinojosa was his usual excellent self, rushing for 220 yards and four scores on only 15 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 103 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Martin Castillo, who rushed for 67 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Odem was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 350 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Odem didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Elyjah Mendez and Jayden Ayala.

Odem's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Monte Alto, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Coincidentally, Odem and Monte Alto will both be playing Banquete the next time they take the field. The Blue Devil will host the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Owls will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
