Softball Game Preview: Western Hills Cougars vs. Decatur Eagles

For the second straight game, Western Hills will face off against Decatur. The Cougars will square off against the Eagles on Saturday. Western Hills has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Western Hills heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Thursday. They came up short against Decatur, falling 15-0. The Cougars' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

For Decatur's part, Alivia Creasser was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Creasser was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, Rylee Spates was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Mangus, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Decatur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Western Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Decatur, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.

Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Western Hills has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .575. However, it's not like Decatur struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
