Preview: Calhoun County Saints vs. Williston-Elko Blue Devils
Calhoun County is 9-0 against Williston-Elko since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Calhoun County Saints are on the road again and plays the Williston-Elko Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Carolina (Calhoun County is ranked 175th, while Williston-Elko is ranked 169th).
On Tuesday, Calhoun County came up short against Ridge Spring-Monetta and fell 58-45.
Calhoun County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Takara Brown, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Cassidy Pough who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Brown is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Destiny Andrade was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Williston-Elko's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 38-24 fall against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler.
Calhoun County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Williston-Elko, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Calhoun County won a match that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in January, slipping by Williston-Elko 46-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calhoun County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
