Basketball Recap: Gretna Takes a Loss

Gretna's last matchup with Omaha Westside could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Saturday. The Dragons were beaten by the Warriors 79-46. The Dragons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-17.

Several Dragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brandtley Hack, who shot 46% from the field on his way to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Treven Wilkins, who posted 11 points.

Omaha Westside's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emre Gedik, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 16 points. Gedik is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season. Jack Shafer also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Gretna now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Omaha Westside, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gretna will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Elkhorn North at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2026. As for Omaha Westside, they will be home for the holidays to greet Millard West at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
