Softball Recap: Carroll County Cavaliers vs. Patrick County Cougars
Carroll County had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-6 to make it six. They fell 6-3 to the Patrick County Cougars. The Cavaliers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
As for Patrick County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.
For Patrick County's part, Jenna Woods spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits. Woods has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Journey Moore, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Hazelwood, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
