Basketball Recap: Richmond Takes Down South View in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Richmond walked away with it. They managed an 84-79 win over the South View Tigers on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.

Richmond's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ahaiver McDonald, who to rack up 18 points. McDonald has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Davion Ingram, who en route to 15 points.

Defeat or not, South View got some senior leadership from Demarcus Spearman and Antrell Gilmore. Spearman on his way to 21 points along with five assists and five boards, while Gilmore to rack up 22 points and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spearman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kasimir Gibson, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Richmond's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.1 points over those games. As for South View, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-11.

Coming up, Richmond will look to defend their home court on Friday against Overhills at 7:30 p.m. Overhills will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Richmond surely won't give up without a fight. South View does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
