Softball Game Preview: Colonel Crawford Eagles vs. Lexington Minutemen

Colonel Crawford is 0-5 against Lexington since April of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Minutemen at 4:30 p.m. Colonel Crawford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Colonel Crawford came up short against Buckeye Central and fell 5-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Colonel Crawford saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylie Hoepf, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Lexington got themselves on the board against Madison Comprehensive on Wednesday, but Madison Comprehensive never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Rams. The result was nothing new for the Minutemen, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Makaree Chapman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Lexington's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Colonel Crawford, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Colonel Crawford suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Lexington when the teams last played on Saturday. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
