It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Melbourne ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cave City Cavemen, sneaking past 5-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Bearkatz, who have now won seven contests in a row.

Kallie Thornton spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maggie Pierson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Grace Cross, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Melbourne's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Cave City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.

Melbourne has already played their next game, a 6-1 loss against Riverside on the 15th. As for Cave City, they will welcome Salem at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
