Recap: San Elizario Eagles vs. Clint Lions

After flying high against the Fabens Wildcats last Friday, the San Elizario Eagles came back down to earth. San Elizario fell to Clint 33-29. The result was an unpleasant reminder to San Elizario of the 38-33 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture on January 5th.

When it comes to explaining why San Elizario lost on Tuesday, one person who can't be blamed is Maya Contreras. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 44.8% of San Elizario's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, San Elizario smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clint only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.

Aylin Garcia continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Clint, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Anabella Portillo, who scored six points along with four steals.

San Elizario has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Clint, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season.

San Elizario will look to defend their home court on Friday against Loretto at 7:30 p.m. Loretto is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Clint will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mountain View at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th.
