Soccer Game Preview: East Mountain vs. Cottonwood Classical Prep

The East Mountain Timberwolves will head out on the road to face off against the Cottonwood Classical Prep Coyotes at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

East Mountain is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Sandia Prep on Thursday. The Timberwolves lost 3-0 to the Sundevils. Both teams had to tread carefully at times as the refs weren't afraid to hand out yellow cards: Zavier Hawkins was handed one for East Mountain, while Sandia Prep got theirs courtesy of Ryan Williams.

Meanwhile, Cottonwood Classical Prep kept a clean sheet against Socorro on Saturday. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Warriors. Cottonwood Classical Prep's winning goal came courtesy of Mathias George.

Cottonwood Classical Prep is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those eight contests. As for East Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2-1.

East Mountain came out on top in a nail-biter against Cottonwood Classical Prep in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Timberwolves since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
