Baseball Game Preview: Manteno Panthers vs. Herscher Tigers

For the second straight game, Manteno will face off against Herscher. The Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Manteno 3.9, Herscher 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Manteno fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Herscher on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this game were averaging 3.9 runs allowed.

For Herscher's part, Payten Young was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Young a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Brubaker, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Herscher kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manteno only managed eight hits.

Manteno's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5. As for Herscher, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Manteno has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Herscher struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
