Basketball Recap: La Veta Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jaiden Goemmer and Aspen Autry

On Friday, the La Veta Redhawks lost to the Wiley Panthers at home by a 44-27 margin. The Redhawks were down 40-16 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

La Veta's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Aspen Autry, who shot 43% from the field to rack up 15 points, and Jaiden Goemmer, who posted four points and eight boards. Goemmer has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Wiley found their leader in freshman Lexie Lubbers, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Mapes, who put up nine points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

La Veta has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. With the win, Wiley broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-15.

La Veta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-21 loss against Stratton on the 7th. Wiley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
