Softball Game Preview: Eastern Montgomery Mustangs vs. Narrows Green Waves

Eastern Montgomery is a perfect 10-0 against Narrows since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mustangs will host the Green Waves at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eastern Montgomery has three straight victories, Narrows has 20 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Eastern Montgomery barely beat Parry McCluer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 21-3 margin over the Fighting Blues on Tuesday. The game marked the Mustangs' most dominant win of the season so far.

Mary Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macie Akers, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chelsie Kennedy, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Eastern Montgomery was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .606. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Narrows lost 23-1 to Giles on Wednesday.

Braylee Robertson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

Narrows' defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Eastern Montgomery, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.

Eastern Montgomery took their win against Narrows in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 22-3 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Green Waves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
