Basketball Game Preview: Lawrence Free State Firebirds vs. Shawnee Mission South Raiders

The Lawrence Free State Firebirds are taking a road trip to face off against the Shawnee Mission South Raiders on Friday. Lawrence Free State has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since January 23.

Last Tuesday, Lawrence Free State had to suffer through a 66-14 loss at the hands of Olathe South. While losing is never fun, the Firebirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Falcons are ranked 34th).

Meanwhile, Shawnee Mission South humbled Lawrence with a 49-20 victory. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Lawrence Free State's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Shawnee Mission South, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.

Lawrence Free State took a serious blow against Shawnee Mission South in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 73-13. Can Lawrence Free State avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
