Softball Recap: Bacon Academy Takes a Loss

Bacon Academy extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They fell 4-0 to the Fitch Falcons. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Falcons from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.

Riley Stolzman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.

As for Fitch, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games.

On Fitch's side, not much got past Hailey Merrill, who gave up just five hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Bacon Academy off the board. Merrill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kayla Gibson was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie MacPherson, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Bacon Academy will look to defend their home field on Saturday against RHAM at 10:00 a.m. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raptors have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Fitch, they will host Waterford at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Lancers will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight.
