Baseball Recap: Jac-Cen-Del Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Jac-Cen-Del had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Southwestern Spartans. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Neil Sullivan made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over 4.1 innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Wagner, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Eli Rowland was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Jac-Cen-Del always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwestern only posted an OBP of .286.

Jac-Cen-Del and Southwestern will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Eagles are set to take on their familiar foe Switzerland County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Southwestern will square off against rival South Decatur at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
