Softball Recap: Spanish Fort Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Orange Beach

Spanish Fort faced Orange Beach in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Toros took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Makos. The Toros were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Makos earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

Spanish Fort got a good showing from Mallarie Beagle, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Beagle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Spanish Fort saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley Hart, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Spanish Fort's loss dropped their record down to 30-8. As for Orange Beach, their victory was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-1.

Looking ahead, Spanish Fort will venture away from home to challenge Gulf Shores at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dolphins will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Toros surely won't give up without a fight. As for Orange Beach, they will welcome McCracken County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Makos' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
