Softball Recap: Columbus Grove Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Columbus Grove ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past the Riverdale Falcons 8-7. Eight seems to be a good number for the Bulldogs as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Columbus Grove let Mariah Schroeder and Saige Benroth run wild. Schroeder went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Benroth went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Benroth has posted since back in March. Avery Birnesser also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Columbus Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.

Columbus Grove's record now sits at 9-12. As for Riverdale, they dropped their record down to 8-16 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Columbus Grove will venture away from home to take on Leipsic at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Riverdale, they will host McComb at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
