Softball Game Preview: San Luis Sidewinders vs. Skyline Coyotes

The San Luis Sidewinders will challenge the Skyline Coyotes at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: San Luis has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Skyline will arrive with three straight victories.

San Luis fell victim to Gila Ridge and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Hawks, falling 12-0.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Skyline). Everything went their way against Dobson on Thursday as they made off with a 23-5 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Coyotes with their most commanding win of the season.

Kaleigha Clytus made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Clytus was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Kendall Dasti and Jordan Seiuli did most of the damage at the plate: Dasti got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one triple, while Seiuli got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. Those two triples gave Seiuli a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilliana Leon-Valenzuela, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Skyline kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

San Luis' defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Skyline, their victory bumped their record up to 7-19.

San Luis couldn't quite finish off Skyline when the teams last played back in March of 2019 and fell 4-2. Can the Sidewinders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
