Recap: Western Plains Bobcats vs. Northern Valley Huskies
The Western Plains Bobcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They were outmatched by Northern Valley on the road and fell 75-38. Western Plains was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-15.
Despite the defeat, Western Plains saw an underclassman step up: Madelyn Kraus scored 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 55.3% of Western Plains' points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaelyn Spangler, who scored six points along with ten assists and two steals.
Northern Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mary Baird, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Baird has scored all season. Austyn Cox was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Western Plains dropped their record down to 1-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Northern Valley, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Plains' road trip will continue as they head out to face Golden Plains at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. As for Northern Valley, they will take on Logan on Tuesday.
