League recap: Pond Creek-Hunter tops Canton to extend winning streak

B District 1 (8 Man) recap Oct. 30, 2012

Pond Creek-Hunter extended the longest winning streak in B District 1 (8 Man) this week by beating Canton, 67-34. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.

Medford made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 877 from 967. The improvement came about via a 30-22 victory over Waukomis last week.

Covington-Douglas's dynamic duo of Dylan Daugherty and Jonah Bigbey proved tough for Merritt to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Daugherty threw for 19 yards and one touchdown and Bigbey had 71 yards receiving. Ty Golay helped Covington-Douglas' passing attack out by catching one ball for one yard.

Brady Krittenbrink was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 288 yards on 14 carries as Pond Creek-Hunter lost to the Oilers. Karington Johnson also contributed to the rushing game with 121 yards on the ground.

6-foot-4 quarterback Quenten Thayer of Covington-Douglas is the league leader in passing yards this season with 888. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. On the ground, David Kerr's team's Krittenbrink has rushed for 1736 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Tanner Misak. The Medford star has 21 catches for 374 yards.

The marquee game in B District 1 (8 Man) this week will be the clash between Laverne and the Panthers. The Tigers comes into the matchup ranked first in the state, while Pond Creek-Hunter ranks second.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Panthers take on Laverne. Pond Creek-Hunter's offense has recorded 472 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Tim Allen's team has permitted only 102 on the year.
