Basketball Recap: Makye Gilbert's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Window Rock over Chinle

Window Rock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 61-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chinle Wildcats. The Fighting Scouts lost against the Wildcats in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 73-42 score last time.

Window Rock's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makye Gilbert, who posted 20 points. The dominant performance gave Gilbert a new career-high in points. Jayden Lilly was another key player, going 5 for 8 on his way to 11 points and four steals.

Window Rock's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Chinle, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Page the next time they take the court. Chinle will head out to face Page at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Window Rock will head out to face them at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
