Having knocked off James Logan 25-19, 25-12, 25-13 in the CIF State Division 1 championship match, the 34-9 Eagles earned the No. 10 spot in MaxPreps' National Rankings. With the win, Eagle head coach Katy Gammon's club claimed its first state title since 1999 and its second overall.

Once Sean Zeitler directed the TOC to the Science Lecture Hall, Santa Margarita President Andy Sulick and Principal Raymond Dunne took over as Gammon and her staff excitedly waited for the celebration to commence.

Following an opening prayer from Dunne, Sulick introduced MaxPreps representative Josh Canales, who acknowledged Santa Margarita's fantastic volleyball season and explained the ranking system that MaxPreps uses for the TOC. Canales then introduced California Army National Guard Sergeant Maurice Collier to present the coveted Army National Guard national ranking trophy to Gammon, her staff and to the Santa Margarita Eagles.

One of only 10 volleyball programs nationwide to be recognized on the TOC, Gammon's Eagles came front and center to be recognized in front of their teammates, the coaching staff and select school administration. Gammon is proud of the Eagles for their great effort and perseverance down the stretch. Congratulations to Santa Margarita for its outstanding character, exemplary leadership, and the diversity to which they embrace and foster.
