Volleyball Recap: Hilton Head Prep Takes a Loss

Hilton Head Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Veritas Academy Gryphon. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gryphon this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 back in August.

Hilton Head Prep wouldn't go down easily and took Veritas Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-20, 20-25, 17-25, 15-8.

Hilton Head Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Veritas Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Hilton Head Prep and Veritas Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in their respective state rankings. The Dolphins (ranked 219th) will meet Cross (ranked 95th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Veritas Academy will square off against Alleluia Community at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (211 vs. 88).
