Basketball Game Preview: Lincoln County Panthers vs. Hoover Huskies

The Lincoln County Panthers will challenge the Hoover Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hoover took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Lincoln County, who comes in off a win.

Lincoln County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came out on top against Grace Christian by a score of 58-49 on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Lincoln County found their leader in sophomore Arien Cooper, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cooper has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rian Johnson, who posted eight points and three steals.

Lincoln County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They are 3-11 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Meanwhile, Hoover was beaten by Wayne 80-44 on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Pioneers are ranked eighth).

Lincoln County will have to contain Ayva Veltri as she made an impact in Hoover's last game. She went 7 of 17 on her way to 17 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Veltri is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Allison Casto was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Hoover has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Lincoln County, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-14.
