Baseball Recap: Smyrna Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Polytech

Smyrna faced Polytech in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Smyrna saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Mannering, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Trevor Ridgeway also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Smyrna is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7. As for Polytech, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-3.

Coincidentally, Smyrna and Polytech will both be playing Milford the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Buccaneers at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Panthers will head out to face them at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
