Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Knox). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Waggener Wildcats a 19-0 shutout on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Nia Aldana was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Aldana was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Fort Knox got a massive performance out of Julia Fletcher, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with seven stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Fletcher a new career-high. Simone Platt was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Fort Knox kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waggener didn't got any hits.
The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-17. As for Waggener, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-4.
Coming up, Fort Knox will venture away from home to take on Burgin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Waggener, they will host Iroquois at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
