Rockridge has gone 9-1 against Mercer County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rockets will square off against the Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Rockridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Rockridge earned a 9-4 victory over Sterling.
Rockridge got a massive performance out of Morgan Hofer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Hofer has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Black, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Rockridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sterling only posted a batting average of .160.
Meanwhile, Mercer County put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Fulton by a score of 7-3.
Elsie Cook spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Natalie Thomson was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Payton Ruggles was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.
Mercer County pushed their record up to 12-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rockridge, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Rockridge hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mercer County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Rockridge couldn't quite finish off Mercer County in their previous matchup on Monday and fell 10-8. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
