Softball Recap: St. John Triumphs

St. John won the last time they faced Lordstown and things went their way on Thursday too. The Heralds came out on top against the Red Devils by a score of 13-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Heralds' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Maddie Holler was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off only two hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Rylee Frasure and Nadia Lagoa did most of the damage at the plate: Frasure went a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI, while Lagoa went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four stolen bases gave Frasure a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rylee Schiedel, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

St. John was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .425. They are 6-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got St. John back to even at 7-7. As for Lordstown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. St. John will venture away from home to face off against Pymatuning Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lordstown, they will head out to challenge David Anderson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
