Baseball Recap: Carrizo Springs Takes a Loss

Carrizo Springs had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 14-8 to make it four. They lost 11-1 to the Floresville Tigers/Jaguars. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

Carrizo Springs saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mathan Cruz, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Floresville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-9 record this season. The result was nothing new for Floresville, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Floresville's side, Jacob Guevara made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Guevara posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Floresville got a massive performance out of Austin Beyer, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Beyer has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bryan Cardenas, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carrizo Springs will venture away from home to square off against Uvalde at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Floresville, they will head out on the road to face off against Pleasanton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something the Tigers/Jaguars surely won't give up without a fight.
