Basketball Recap: Leesburg Takes a Loss

If Leesburg was riding high fresh off their 70-37 takedown of Mount Dora Christian Academy last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Leesburg Yellow Jackets were dealt a 73-31 defeat at the hands of the Dr. Phillips Panthers on Wednesday. The matchup marked the Yellow Jackets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Leesburg saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alysya Smith posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniya Hester, who scored seven points.

Jamila Ray was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards for Dr. Phillips. Ray is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last five games she's played. Anilys Rolon was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 16 points.

Leesburg's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Dr. Phillips, they pushed their record up to 13-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Leesburg didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-57 loss against Oak Ridge on the 25th. As for Dr. Phillips, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 69-6 victory against Jones on the 30th.
