The West Stanly Colts will challenge the North Davidson Black Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
North Davidson's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: West Stanly hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. West Stanly never let Monroe get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Thursday. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for the Colts this season.
Katie Broadaway was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Broadaway was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Reagan Dixon was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jenna Brock, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
West Stanly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, North Davidson made sure to put some runs up on the board against Western Alamance on Thursday. North Davidson blew past Western Alamance 13-3. The Black Knights haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like West Stanly, North Davidson also got a great game from a two-way player: Rileigh Barker. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Barker has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Brown, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. Bryton Zimmerman was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
West Stanly's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 13.1 runs. As for North Davidson, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both West Stanly and North Davidson just can't seem to miss. West Stanly has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like North Davidson struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went West Stanly's way against North Davidson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as West Stanly made off with a 12-2 win. Will West Stanly repeat their success, or does North Davidson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
