Basketball Recap: R.J. Reynolds Demons vs. Watauga Pioneers
R.J. Reynolds lost against Watauga back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The R.J. Reynolds Demons took a blow against the Watauga Pioneers, falling 71-20. While losing is never fun, the Demons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while the Pioneers are ranked 20th).
Despite the loss, R.J. Reynolds still got an impressive performance from Cameron Fleming, who posted six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Acker, who scored four points.
Kate Sears continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Watauga, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 assists. What's more, Sears also racked up six steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Blair Haines was another key player, going 5 for 6 on her way to 14 points and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for R.J. Reynolds and nudges their season record down to 4-9. As for Watauga, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. R.J. Reynolds will welcome Northwest Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Watauga, they will take on Freedom at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Watauga comes in on five and Freedom on three.
