Football Game Preview: Ventura Cougars vs. Oxnard Yellowjackets + How To Watch

The Ventura Cougars will head out to face off against the Oxnard Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ventura has four straight wins, Oxnard has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Ventura took their matchup with ease, bagging a 35-7 victory over Oak Park. Considering the Cougars have won five games by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ventura to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tristan Savage, who picked up 62 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in a pair of touchdowns on the ground. Derek Garcia was another key passer, throwing for 196 yards and two TDs on only 18 passes.

Meanwhile, Oxnard scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Buena by a score of 28-26. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellowjackets have suffered since August 22nd.

Ventura will need to focus on slowing down Gavin Liston, one of several Oxnard players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 94 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 109 yards and one touchdown. Oxnard also got a significant boost from Jae Lomelin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 144 yards.

Oxnard's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Ventura, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

Ventura was able to grind out a solid victory over Oxnard in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, winning 19-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
