Softball Recap: Desert Comes Up Short

Desert lost against Kern Valley back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Scorpions came up short against the Broncs, falling 15-5. The Scorpions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alayna Phillips was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and 12 unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Rachel Hewes was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played.

Desert's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Kern Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.

Desert wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 8-7 victory against Bishop Union on the 4th. Kern Valley has also already played their next match (against Frazier Mountain), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
