Baseball Recap: Avon Grove Extends Winning Streak to Three

Avon Grove had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Sun Valley Vanguards by a score of 6-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Red Devils also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Ryan Fuller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ken Askin was a standout: he scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Andrew Simeone was another key player, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 1-for-3.

Avon Grove's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Sun Valley, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

Coming up, Avon Grove will host Henderson at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Sun Valley, they are taking a road trip to challenge Bayard Rustin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vanguards are facing the Golden Knights at the right time seeing as the Golden Knights are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
