Basketball Game Preview: East Providence Townies vs. Tiverton Tigers

The East Providence Townies will challenge the Tiverton Tigers at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as East Providence comes in on four and Tiverton on 12.

East Providence is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They escaped with a win against Smithfield by the margin of a single free throw, 44-43.

Meanwhile, Tiverton faced Mt. Hope in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Tiverton took down Mt. Hope 51-34. 51 seems to be a good number for the Tigers as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Tiverton's win came from a few key players East Providence will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jenna Del Deo, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 15 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Jah'Niece Branch, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Tiverton pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.9 points over those games. As for East Providence, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.

East Providence skirted past Tiverton 47-44 in their previous matchup back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for East Providence since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
