Basketball Recap: John Elbe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead University over Colorado Academy

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact University can now relate to. They came up short against the Colorado Academy Mustangs on Wednesday, falling 63-37. The game marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

University's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Elbe, who shot 46% from the field to rack up 14 points. Elbe is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last three games he's played. Coehn Nitzel was another key player, putting up six points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Colorado Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but James Claypool led the charge by dropping a double-double with 25 points and 13 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikel Miller, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

University's defeat dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Colorado Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

University does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Colorado Academy, they have already played their next game, a 67-62 victory against Coal Ridge on the 14th.
