The York Dukes will head out on the road to face off against the Berwyn/Cicero Morton Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. York is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
York took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over Hinsdale Central. The Dukes haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Danny Raible looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Josh Fleming, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April.
Meanwhile, Berwyn/Cicero Morton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 9-2 to Willowbrook.
Berwyn/Cicero Morton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Johangel Castrillo, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. James Richmond also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
York's victory bumped their record up to 18-5. As for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-21.
Berwyn/Cicero Morton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: York has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given York's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
York came out on top in a nail-biter against Berwyn/Cicero Morton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dukes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
