Softball Recap: Birmingham Patriots vs. Taft Toreadors        
        
		
            
 Birmingham waltzed into their matchup  on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Taft Toreadors  a   26-0 shutout. Birmingham's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most  runs they've scored all season.
  Rebecca Lozano was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She  kept things locked down with   no  earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Lozano has been consistent recently: she hasn't  pitched less than five  innings in five consecutive pitching appearances. Lozano was also big at the plate,  going 4-for-5 with a  home run, four  runs,  and five  RBI.
 In other batting news,  Jazmine Olmos was  incredible,  going 5-for-5 with six  RBI and three  runs.  Bella Gonzalez was another key contributor,  scoring three  runs while going 2-for-5.
 Birmingham has  been performing  incredibly well recently as they've  won seven of their last eight matches,  which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record  this season. As for Taft, they are  on  a  three-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 4-5.
 Birmingham will head out on the road to  challenge  Cleveland at 3:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. Birmingham's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1  runs per game  this season, so Cleveland's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Taft, they will be playing at home against Chatsworth at 3:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. Chatsworth hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the  team is eager to reverse.
