Basketball Recap: Jeremy Rivas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Van Nuys over Reseda

Van Nuys lost against Reseda two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Van Nuys Wolves fell 84-74 to the Reseda Regents. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (65), the Wolves still had to take the loss.

Van Nuys lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jeremy Rivas, who posted 23 points. He is becoming a predictor of Van Nuys' success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 2-1 (and 3-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Tu, who put up 22 points and six boards.

Reseda found their leader in freshman Cameron Jones, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 11 blocks. Jones' afternoon made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Donte Robinson, who earned 14 points.

Van Nuys' defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Reseda, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Van Nuys has already played their next game, a 75-64 win against Sylmar on the 10th. As for Reseda, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-52 victory against San Fernando on the 7th.
