Preview: Savannah Bluejackets vs. Claxton Tigers
The Savannah Bluejackets will head out on the road to face off against the Claxton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Savannah is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Savannah posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 40-18 margin over Woodville-Tompkins.
Savannah's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ernajah Mallard, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Mallard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tania Bryant, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Claxton's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 71-28 defeat at the hands of Bryan County. While losing is never fun, Claxton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Bryan County is ranked 89th).
Savannah now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Claxton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Savannah strolled past Claxton in their previous matchup on January 5th by a score of 52-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Savannah since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
