Basketball Game Preview: Overland Trailblazers vs. Cherokee Trail Cougars

Overland is 9-1 against Cherokee Trail since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Overland Trailblazers will welcome the Cherokee Trail Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Overland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.3 points per game this season.

On Wednesday, Overland came up short against Grandview and fell 65-53. The Trailblazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Overland's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dontae Graham, who posted 15 points, and Demetrius Lambert, who had 16 points. Graham's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Meanwhile, Cherokee Trail was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 66-47 to Eaglecrest. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Raptors are ranked third).

Cherokee Trail's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Overland, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

Overland didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Cherokee Trail in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 61-56 victory. Will Overland repeat their success, or does Cherokee Trail have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
