Recap: Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions vs. Eno River Bobcats
This season hasn't been kind to the Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions, who are still winless after their tenth game. They fell to Eno River 56-50.
When it comes to explaining why Excelsior Classical Academy lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Hunter Goss. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Goss is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hill, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Eno River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Corey Amyot led the charge by scoring 15 points along with two steals. Amyot has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Manning, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Excelsior Classical Academy's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-10. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Eno River, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-8.
Excelsior Classical Academy will take on Voyager at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Voyager is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 62.1 points per game. As for Eno River, they will head out on the road to face off against Oxford Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxford Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Eno River in North Carolina (Oxford Prep is ranked 308th, while Eno River is ranked 651st).
