Basketball Recap: Wallkill Takes a Loss

Wallkill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a blow against the New Paltz Huguenots, falling 81-51. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 670th, while the Huguenots are ranked 55th).

Desmond Lynch and George Avila certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Lynch went 6-for-15 to rack up 19 points, while Avila went 7-for-11 en route to 17 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Avila a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Marshall, who posted 12 points.

Even though they lost, Wallkill was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Wallkill's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for New Paltz, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Wallkill has already played their next game, a 61-33 defeat against Red Hook on the 17th. As for New Paltz, they will head out on the road to challenge Our Lady of Lourdes at 5:00 p.m. on February 24th.
