Softball Recap: Fenwick Wins Going Away Against Montini Catholic

Fenwick was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Montini Catholic on Friday. The Friars blew past the Broncos 19-4. The game marked the Friars' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Sofia Kateeb was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Kateeb was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Fenwick let Alex Purta and Gabriella Simon run wild. Purta went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Simon went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave Purta a new career-high in doubles (two). Sophia Leonardi was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Fenwick was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fenwick now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Montini Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Fenwick is set to face off against their familiar foe St. Laurence at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Friars 2.6, the Vikings 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Montini Catholic will take on rival Loyola Academy at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
